Municipality in El Priorat sheltered by La Serra del Montsant, at the confluence of the Montsant River and the stream of Scala Dei. The township takes up 5,57km².

The village, at 214 metres above sea level is located on top of a rocky hill, under which the two rivers flow. La Vilella Alta is only 2 kilometres away from town.

The town's economy is based on agriculture. The chief crops are vine and olive trees. The two farming co-operatives in town make red and white wine and also olive oil.

The red wine made in Vilella has the very best quality. In 1979, the co-operative was awarded with the 1st prize and the Generalitat Cup in the 3rd wine contest of El Priorat.
